Solstice

Deep into December, granite storm clouds can capture the sky. Other days, it’s the beautiful translucent greys of the foggy northern California coast. We can also be graced by the most brilliant blue winter skies. And when we’re lucky, golden sunsets complete the day!

The starting base for these beads was translucent clay. Then — inspired by deep winter skies — I added bits of brilliant cerulean blue clay. Dark alcohol ink introduced storm clouds. And gold leaf provided a tiny glimpse of sunset. I added a resin coating for depth and reflection. Deep winter skies are mirrored in the nine pairs of Solstice earrings shown below.
